Hi all after many years of service to the Region as the Competition Secretary, Paolo Infantino has chosen to step down from the role, So starting from November 2020 we need a new Regional Competition Secretary. The role is to organise and run all of our Regional Events (except the Regional Qualifiers and Regional Challenges) and to set and co-ordinate our Regional Calendar with our National Organisation and our local leagues. It is a position on the Committee that needs an organised person, who can put together event flyers, allocate venues, collect lists of entrants and check that entry list with the Regional Membership Secretary and the Regional Treasurer. They would then need to organise the playing format on the day and collate the scores and progress each Competition through to its conclusion. Due to the nature and amount of the work involved with this Committee we will consider if necessary a job share. As one of our main aims as a Region is to provide Competitions for our members to play in, it is imperative that we fill this role so if you are interested can you please contact me by e-mail ([email protected]) or by phone (01462435407) to discuss the matter further. Regards, Neil Stevenson (Chair of Chiltern Region Petanque) |

Friday 12th June - Pennant and Three Shires League
In respect of the situation relating to Covid-19 and although lockdown rules are being relaxed a little further it is still very difficult to play any social petanque let alone any meaningful games.
It is therefore with some reluctance that the PMPL and Three Shires summer season leagues and weekend competitions are cancelled.
We trust that you understand why they have come to this decision and appreciate that they have not taken this decision lightly.

Friday 14th April - Regional Qualifiers
I hope you are keeping safe and well in these strange and difficult times?
Hopefully we will not miss the entire Petanque season and that the social distancing restrictions will be lifted to allow the Inter-Regional Championships at Hayling Island on the weekend of the 12th and 13th September to take place.
As you can probably appreciate our Regional playing calendar has been thrown into complete disarray. However we have to try and plan to accommodate some sort of selection process for our Regional teams at this event and to consider organising accommodation and possibly team kit.
The type of selection competition that we will organise will depend on the number of weekends between when we are allowed to recommence playing and the beginning of September and the number of teams that will enter. It might be that we can arrange our normal full round robin event or we might have to organise a one day “swiss” style event. To be honest at this moment in time we have no idea what, when or how we can arrange anything, however if allowed and with your help and support we will do our best.
In order to help with arranging this if you want to enter we would appreciate it if you could provisionally enter your team. At this juncture we do not want to collect any entry fees or deposits for Hayling Island accommodation all we are asking is that you e-mail Alan Roden and let him know if you want to enter a team. Of course if things change and you and or your team feel wary about playing in the qualifier(s) or at the Inter-Regionals or circumstances change you can withdraw or re-arrange your team and we will fully understand. What we are trying to do here is gauge the likely level of entries in order that we can start planning.
Please can you respond to Alan Roden ([email protected]) by Friday 8th May.

Wednesday 15th April - Petanque England President Candidacy
There have been two nominations for the successor to our President of Petanque England, Martin Eggleton: Clive De Silva and David Mason. On Petanque Englands website on the AGM tab you will find profile statements from all those who have been nominated for appointment as the President or Director and a proxy form which can be downloaded, completed, and returned to Kenneth Buchan. If you prefer to submit your proxy electronically this can be done through the Loveadmin membership database.
Simply logon and select “Events”. In the Events tab select “AGM Proxy”. This brings up the proxy form entry screen. Under the “No. required box” you need to select “1” and then press the continue button. This brings you to the proxy form proper. Your personal details will be populated automatically. You are required to choose whether to appoint the chairman as your proxy. By default, this is shown as “Yes” but if you prefer to appoint someone else select “No” and insert the name of your proxy in the box provided. You can then proceed to record your voting instructions. For the resolutions to approve the annual accounts and to fix the annual subscription you need to select For/Against/Withheld from the dropdown menu (the annual accounts will be on the website as soon as they have come back from the auditors). Regarding the appointment of the President you need to select Clive De Silva or David Mason and in respect of the directors you need to select up to 6 of the nominees. If you have any problems in completing the form, please do not hesitate to contact David Baxter on [email protected]
There is no deadliner for the submission of proxies because the date of the adjourned AGM is not known. Members will be given 21 days-notice of the reconvened AGM as soon as it has been fixed and the deadline for submission of proxies will be 48 hours before that date.

Monday 16th March - Coronavirus Update
Hi all in light of the worsening situation with Covid-19 and discussions with our National Sport’s Board we as a Region are accepting the general advice that has been given and suspending all Regional Events until further notice. This action is appropriate as our first priority is the health and safety of our members
As soon as we are able to we will commence playing Regional Events. We acknowledge that certain events such as our Regional Qualifiers and those events leading to Champion of Champions event will need to take priority and that is what we will do. Venues are being arranged as normal but the event that will be held there may be altered at short notice and the format of the Regional Qualifiers may have to change dependent on the number of weeks we have left before Hayling Island. The less critical events can if we want be played in the Autumn.
We have been allocated chalet accommodation by IOW tours for the Hayling Island weekend and will sort that out as things develop with our qualifying teams, the same applies to Regional Kit which we will sort out with Macron to the best of ours and their ability, if time is limited we will endeavor to obtain kit for new squad members and those who have played before might have to wear kit from the previous year for the event.
These are obviously extremely difficult times for organising any event and we as a Committee will endeavor to do our best and we hope that you will all work with us? Everything is in a state of flux and we apologise in advance if this further disrupts your Summer activities and we are happy to listen to any constructive comments that you may have.
Best Regards, Neil Stevenson (Chair of PE Chiltern Region)

Thursday 13th March - Coronavirus
Please see below guidelines given by Petanque England regarding the Coronavirus -
"Given the current situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, Pétanque England wishes to advise our members that no events under its jurisdiction are affected at present. We note the statement this morning (9.3.20) by the Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden that UK sporting events are to continue as normal. We will continue to monitor the situation and if Government advice changes as a result of a worsening outbreak we will advise further. The PE Board meeting scheduled for 28th March will also review the situation in the round.
In the meantime, we advise all of our members to adopt Government advice with regard to hand hygiene whilst participating in our sport, as well as using tissues to catch any coughs or sneezes. We are a tactile sport and for the time being, we think it’s advisable to refrain from handshakes and kissing, adopting the ‘elbow bump’ instead .
For further information/advice, please visit the UK Government’s dedicated website."

Tuesday 10th March - Pete Dibble
Yesterday we were told the extreamly sad news that one of the true characters of our Petanque Family, Pete Dibble sadly passed away on Sunday 8th March.
Pete was a much loved character who we all enjoyed playing against in league and regional events, he always enjoyed the camaraderie and of course a beer or two. Over the years he and his team mates pulled off some fantastic results leading many players to say they had been well and truly "Dibbled". His easy going demeanour will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of playing with and against him. The Region will be a poorer place without Pete. So Pete, rest in peace knowing that you made a difference to so many! |
Saturday 7th March - International Womens Day Chiltern Region Qualifier

A fun filled day was had by all, with closly fought matches. The eventual winners were Charlotte and Sarah Huntley who beat Sharon Zimmerman and Debbie Matthews to the title. Both of these teams will be taking on winners from across the country in April, we wish them all the best of luck!
